If pushed, I reluctantly describe myself as an educator, musician and writer and- on a good day- an artist. I’m based in Nottingham where I study for a PhD in the Centre for the Study of Social and Global Justice at the University of Nottingham. My thesis is entitled Towards a Nomadic Utopianism and seeks to rethink utopia as an immanent, nonhierarchical space that remains orientated to an open future (of which you can read more here).
Away from academia I have worked in Public Programming at Nottingham Contemporary, where I helped create ‘Towards an Even Geography’ and as the writer in residence for YH485 Press’ Bookmobile Project during Sideshow- the fringe festival to the British Art Show 7, where I instigated the Eastside Island Utopia Project. I have taught on BA and MA modules on classical political theory, global politics, the politics of science-fiction and local power (and as a cover supervisor in a local comprehensive school) and am currently writing a book for Zero Books titled ‘The Shape of Utopia to Come: Improvising Music and Nomadic Politics’.
I’m increasingly interested in engaging in artistic/curatorial practice to encourage people to think (collectively) about the concept of utopia and imagine how the world might be otherwise. I also hope to develop participatory artworks which create temporary utopian communities amongst participants.

It would be great to keep in touch and I will be reading what you have been up to as soon as I have good time to devote. Are you in touch with any other people working in this field, no doubt..
Look forward to hearing from you

Just found your blog after a google search for “relational aesthetics jameson,” while working on a paper for my MFA. Very interesting stuff here. I’m part of a project you might be interested in: the Art Monastery (http://www.artmonastery.org). Take care!
Hello David, I wonder you may have found time to glance at my Blog on Utopia to date?.
It would be good to speak more directly with you regarding your practice/ ethics. I am currently looking into Practice in Context and wish to converse over themes of Utopia with contemporary practitioners such as your self.
Can you spare any time to devote to liaisons?
Regards,
Phil
